Mass produced furniture on the surface often looks like nice furniture, but it’s what you can’t see that tells the true story. If you look at a mass produced chest of drawers, you’ll notice the beautiful wood grain finish. But what looks like wood really isn’t wood at all. Well, technically it is, but in reality it is only a wood product, PAPER. That beautiful wood grain is actually printed on paper and glued on to fiberboard panels. It may look like wood, but it’s only an illusion.
In a few years, and sometimes, only a few months, this printed paper will begin to fade or peel off, exposing the fiberboard beneath it. Simply by cleaning or polishing the exterior surfaces the fiberboard may swell and split, destroying the exterior paper finish. Hot room temperatures may also cause the finish to split and peel.
We refuse to sell that inferior quality junk in our store. We sell only top quality furniture constructed of the finest materials, and handcrafted by master craftsmen, right here in the USA. We sell furniture that won’t end up in a landfill in 10 years, but rather, will become family heirlooms you will be proud to pass along to your children, and your grandchildren.
Look at the beautiful Kincaid chest of drawers below. It is handcrafted by master craftsmen from solid wood, featuring dovetailed drawers and solid wood drawer slides. No fiberboard, no printed paper, just solid wood meticulously handcrafted, and built to last a lifetime.
Mass produced furniture will become trash in a landfill, but our quality furniture will become the antiques of the future.
Kincaid is only one of the many fine manufacturers represented in our showroom. We know that tastes and styles vary, and are a part of each customer’s individuality. So we make sure you have many brands and styles to choose from.
Since much of our furniture is custom made to order, you have nearly unlimited choices in making sure the furniture you get is exactly what you wanted. The furniture displayed in our showroom is there to inspire you and help you visualize your final design. If you like a piece on display you can buy it. If you like the basic design, but you would prefer a different fabric, we have thousands of fabrics to choose from. Choose your fabrics, stains and finishes, and even the hardware on many pieces. You can’t do that in one of the “furniture to go” stores, or one of the many stores in the area that offer the foreign made, mass produce junk furniture.
How does custom furniture compare in price to the mass produced junk furniture? The initial investment is a little more in most cases, but in the long run, solid wood, custom furniture can be less expensive. How? It lasts much longer, which means you won’t have to buy new furniture every few years to replace the junk that keeps wearing out or falling apart. As the old saying goes: “You get what you pay for.”
We encourage you to shop around at other furniture stores in the area, and really check out the quality of their furniture. Pull out the drawers and look for dovetail construction. (See photo to the right) Are the drawers made of wood, inside and out? Do they feel sturdy? Look closely at the tops of tables, and chests of drawers. Are the tops solid wood, or veneer covered pressboard, or multi-density fiberboard (MDF)? Can you customize the colors of stains and finishes, fabrics, hardware, anything?
Let’s be honest, most people don’t really care about quality construction. If they did, these junk furniture showrooms wouldn’t be on every corner in nearly every city. Most people just want a sofa, or bed, or dining room table that will look good for a while, and when it falls apart, they will simply trash it and get a new one. They settle for junk rather than insisting on quality, never considering that investing in solid wood quality furniture actually saves them money in the long run.
Our customers know and want quality. They have worked hard to get where they are in life, and know it’s foolish to waste money on cheap imitations, when the best quality furniture is available for only a little more money.
It’s better to pay a little more now, than a lot more later. Quality will last, but junk will soon pass.
